Richard Taylor BSc (hons) MCOptom | Consultant Optometrist | Director

Richard is our full time resident and lead optometrist. He has a specialist interest in OCT, contact lenses and ocular therapeutics.

He is a registered member of the General Optical Council, The College of Optometrists and the Association of Optometrists. He has also passed the PLA set by the Canadian Examiners in Optometry and was offered a place on the International Bridging Programme.

In his free time he is a keen golfer and likes spending time in the Alps on his mountain bike or on a snowboard. Rather him than us!

Shane Bennett BSc (hons) | FAOI Specialist Optometrist

Shane qualified in 2010 from the Dublin Institute of Technology. He moved to the UK in 2011 and has been working for Raxworthys since 2015. He is a welcomed edition to the team and specialises in OCT, contact lenses and pediatric optometry.

He is a registered member of the General Optical Council, The Association of Optometrists (UK) and is a Fellow of the Association of Optometrists Ireland.

He too is a keen golfer and also plays Gaelic football. He can often be found wearing the colours of the homeland, keep an eye out for them in the practice.

Mark Andrews ABDO | Dispensing Optician | General Manager

Mark joined the dispensing team in 2002, qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in January 2006. His profound technical lens and frame knowledge is extensive; there isn’t a problem he can’t solve.

Mark serves on the local area committee for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians as the CET (Continuing Education & Training) Officer, and was recently successful at interview to join the Association’s team of probationary examiners.

One of Mark’s passions is music and in another life he played keyboards in the rock band ‘Galahad’, touring in Europe and enjoying Radio One airplay. He still occasionally collaborates with them.

William Andrews ABDO | Dispensing Optician

Bill has worked within Raxworthy Opticians from 1958 until 2016 a steady 58 years of service! Bill knows everything and anything about dispensing frames and lenses; if Bill doesn’t know it, it’s not worth knowing.

He ‘retired’ in 2016 but has recently taken a roll as our Saturday boy, he just can’t keep away. Many of our patients have forged lifelong friendships with him and these loyal patients return year on year for their eyecare and for a coffee and catch up. Bills hobbies include photography, videography and cinema.

Barbara Shutler | Receptionist

Barbara joined Raxworthys team in 2006, in which time she’s seen the practice grow. Chances are if you call or come in to the practice she’ll be the first person you talk to.

She recently completed her ocular hygiene training and is in charge of looking after our Lens Plan patients. If you’ve a contact lens query, Barbara will know the answer.

Julie Taylor | Optical Assistant

Julie Taylor | Raxworthy Opticians Christchurch

Julie joined Raxworthy Opticians in 2014. She has 17 years of dispensing experience and will help you chose the right frame that suits your face shape. She is more than happy to spend as much time as you need to select the right frame to ensure you’ll be delighted with your new spectacles. Julie is also trained in ocular hygiene.


Louise Metcalfe | Receptionist

Louise is our part time receptionist and bookkeeper. She has been with Raxworthy Opticians since 2013. Louise is also involved with the running of our lens plan and has a vast knowledge of contact lenses. She too recently completed her ocular hygiene training. In her free time Louise is an avid pianist and keen runner.
